What is the Dolch List?

In 1948 Edward Dolch (Doctor of Philosophy) published a book called "Problems in Reading". This book listed the most commonly used words found in children's books. Based on his research he created a list of 315 words. Dolch said that if children could recognise these words by sight, they could learn to read faster and more efficiently. These words have stood the test of time and of course, these words are still taught in schools today.

Writeboards has the entire 315 words done in SA Font. Of these 315 words, 220 of them are adverbs, adjectives, conjunctions, prepositions and verbs, the other 95 are nouns (all pictured here in no particular order).

When you buy the download it will list the first 220 words from the easiest going to the hardest, followed by the 95 nouns. Imagine if you could teach your child just ten of these words a week, in just of 31 weeks they would know them all. Before you know it they will be reading to you.

This pack has the choice of coming with an A4 Writeboard, all you pay for is postage and handling.

The advantage to having a Writeboard with these Dolch Word is that you can not only use the downloads for flashcards, the sheets also double as bingo cards with the Writeboard on top (saving an absolute fortune on paper).  Also included in this pack is also a blank sheet (with squares on it) so you can make up your own bingo card. Children learn a lot faster when you play games, as games are fun!

The other activity that you can do (as you child gets more proficient at writing), is teach them to write the words using their Writeboard (by tracing over the top). This not only gives them writing practice, but also spelling practice.
