Learn to Tell the Time Course - Stage 2

Stage 2 of this course will teach your child how to tell the time in 5 minute increments, both on the clock and also on the digital display. With Stage 2... the hour hand does not move, this stage is about learning about the minute hand (the orange hand) and how it moves in 5 minute increments!

Stage 2 of this course has been trialled on a six year old with fantastic results!

To complete Stage 2 of this course successfully, your child should to be able to count in increments of 5, example: 5 -10 -15- 20 etc. There are flashcard in this course that will assist them in this learning exercise, make sure you print them out and then play some fun games with your child using them.

On the clock the orange hand represents the five minute intervals, while on the digital display it represents the orange boxes. You will notice on the outside of each clock there are corresponding orange numbers that match the orange boxes... Example: 05, 10, 15, 20 etc.  The green hand represents the hour, while on the digital display it represents the green box/and or boxes.

To help the environment and also save money on printing costs, sit with your child on the computer and go through the clocks (they are all in order) both with and without the answers.

Start off by doing just 20 minutes at a time e.g. 1.05, 1.10, 1,15, 1.20. After doing that, print out the big clock with the minutes on it (e.g. 05, 10, 15 etc.) and use that template with an A4 Writeboard to revise what you have just taught your child.

After your child is confident with the big clock template (with the minutes on it), progress onto the big plain clock without the minutes and repeat the process above.

Once your child has grasped the concept of this print out the past and to clock (and use with the A4 Writeboard) to teach your child that there are other names for the time like... five past, ten past, quarter past, half past, ten to etc

The most important thing is to make the learning fun!

• One with "past and to" done in the same colour as the minutes e.g. 10, 20, 30 etc.

• One with "past and to" done in the same colour as the minutes e.g. 10, 20, 30 etc. plus the digital display
